Great Big Green Week 2023
Great Big Green Week is the UK’s biggest ever celebration of community action to tackle climate change and protect nature, taking place from 10th - 18th June 2023.
We've put together some ideas for simple things you can do at The Mall to help the environment.
RECYCLE
We all know it's important to recycle our plastics and cardboard at home, but did you know you can recycle loads of other items?
- Batteries: Got some old batteries that have run out of juice? Don't put them in your household waste, bring them to Wilko or The Mall's Guest Lounge and pop them in the designated battery recycling bin so they can be disposed of safely.
- Clothing & Textiles: You can donate your pre-loved clothes in TK Maxx where they will be given to Cancer Research shops, or Primark where they will be recycled and all profits donated to UNICEF. Another option is to scan the QR code instore at New Look to order a donation bag to your door - they'll give your clothing a second life and even plant a tree for every bag you fill.
- Cosmetics & Toiletries: Use the Boots app to scan your packaging, pop the item in the bin provided instore and get rewarded with Advantage points! Find out more here.
- Don't forget to use the recycling bins in The Mall to separate your waste. Blue = Bottles & Cans, Green = Paper & Card, Plastic & Cans, and White = General Waste.
REPAIR
When something breaks or wears out, it can be tempting to just buy a new one, but it's often cheaper and more environmentally friendly to get it repaired. We have lots of brilliant makers and menders in The Mall who can help make your belongings as good as new.
- Shoes: Pop into Wood Green Cobblers in the Market Hall where Mark can replace heels and soles, and make your favourite shoes ready to strut their stuff again.
- Clothing: Nida Needles in the Market Hall can fix all manner of rips and tears, and they're pros at alterations too, so whether your favourite outfit is worn out or you've got a vintage bargain that needs tailoring, they'll help you get the right fit.
- Electricals: Neil Electrics have a whole team of qualified engineers who can carry out repairs on all makes of vacuum cleaners as well as lamps, nutribullets and audio equipment to name but a few. Get in touch for help or advice here or visit them in the Market Hall.
- Phones: Smart Phones and Computers in the Market Hall are experts in all things techy! If you need a new screen or your laptop won't turn on, this is the place to head to get your tech back up and running.
- Jewellery: Your jewellery is a part of you, and when it breaks you feel like something is missing. Our jewellers understand that, and the artisans at Sasa, Erbiller and A&C Jewellery can be trusted to get your precious possessions back to you looking shiny and new.
- Watches: Visit Tick Tock kiosk on the Upper Mall or Watch Outlet by TK Maxx for expert watch repairs while you wait.
- Leather: No one knows Leather like Tru Clothing! No only do they offer a repair service for their leathers, they even do bespoke pieces so you can get your leather jacket made to measure. Find them on the High Road.
REFILL
We know shopping can be thirsty work, so there are plenty of places you can fill up your water bottle for free at The Mall. Check out our refill station in the Guest Lounge on the Upper Mall, or simply pop into Pret or Costa Coffee with your empty bottle to quench your thirst.
Why not download the Refill app to help you find more places to top up your bottle on the move?
