Maidstone Museum fun for all the family this spring
8th Feb - 23rd Mar
Maidstone Museum reopened for 2024 yesterday, Wednesday 7 February, with a fascinating exhibition and events in time for the schools’ half term break next week.
The Museum offers so much to entertain people of all ages over the next few weeks and months, including two exciting new temporary exhibitions which have been installed.
The first is by Graham Clarke: ‘A Retrospective – 65 years as a printmaker’ in one gallery, whilst the other showcases the Maidstone Young Artist Award 2024 finalists’ artwork, on display until 1 June.
February half term means family friendly ‘Make It!’ craft sessions between Tuesday 13 - Thursday 15 February with Maidstone Museum’s Learning Team. The theme this year is all about the Egyptian collection, plus the Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Friday craft activities on 16 February. Visitors can also take part in an Egyptian themed trail with Makaton signs around the building.
Maidstone Borough Council Cabinet Member for Leisure and Arts, Cllr Claudine Russell said: “Our wonderful Museum always plays a huge part of keeping the family entertained and informed throughout the year. February half-term is the start of the visitor season, and we look forward to a whole year packed with fantastic exhibitions, events and even a new gallery.
“What many people don’t realise that Maidstone Museum is free to enter, and I would encourage everyone to come and see for themselves the amazing artefacts and displays it has to offer.”
In addition to activities, the Kettle Bridge Concertinas make a welcome return to Maidstone Museum on Thursday 15 February in the Great Hall. In March there will be a professional calligrapher, Julia Baxter, holding two workshops. The first, on Saturday 2 March, is for children to create a name plate, and the second, taking place on Saturday 23 March, will be for adults to design a personalised bookmark.
