Coming Soon: Community Theatre for all the Family, Music, Comedy and more!
1st Feb - 14th Mar
This February, our Hazlitt Institute’s annual Feb Fest workshop week is back, and we have lots of family shows like BGT winner Richard Jones: Soldier of Illusion and The Three Little Pigs to keep the kids entertained this February Half Term! For those with little ones, don’t miss the Three Little Pigs - The OINK-TASTIC Musical! to have your little piggies squealing with enjoyment! We also even have our very own Hazlitt Institute (HI) Youth Theatre performing in Boys Will be Boys - an urgent new play exploring young men’s mental health and social pressures - online and IRL.
In February, we also have rising comedy star Connor Burns in our Exchange Studio on 9 February after his sell-out runs at Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Glasgow International Comedy Festival. West Hand legend and 1966 England World Cup Hat-Trick Hero Sir Geoff Hurst will be taking our main stage on his Farewell Tour on 10 February for an evening of Meet & Greet and audience Q&A!
After this jam-packed start to 2024 with sold out evenings with Arsenal Legends, comedy stars like Al Murray, and drag sensations The Dazzling Diamonds (who will be returning in 2025), we are looking forward to Spring at the Hazlitt Theatre!
This March, The Hazlitt Theatre is welcoming a range of fresh takes on classic theatre - from The Addams Family to The Metamorphosis. And as a theatre at the heart of the local community, we are proud to host these new productions from Stage Theatre Society, Maidstone Amateur Operatics Society and our very own HI Choir. Family fun continues in March with theatre for all ages, as well as evenings of comedy and live music for parents and adults.
Stage Theatre Society (STS) is kicking things off this March with their new production of The Little Mermaid from 28 February to 2 March. One of the South East’s largest youth theatre companies, STS has worked with over 700 young people in all areas of theatre production during their 20 years in action. The Hazlitt Theatre is looking forward to hosting their take on Hans Christian Andersen's beloved tale of adventure, love, and new beginnings with music by eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken.
STS’s production is followed by our in-house HI Choir’s annual showcase, This Is The Moment! on 4 March. Featuring West End, Broadway and chart-topping hits, the HI Choir look forward to celebrating classic songs from Mamma Mia, Matilda and more - all accompanied by a live band!
The month ends with Maidstone Amateur Operatics Society (MAOS)’s production of The Addams Family - a comical feast that embraces the wickedness in every family. Watch as everything changes for the Addams family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s ‘normal’ boyfriend and his parents.
March at the Hazlitt also offers other family and theatre favourites, including Mark Thompson’s Spectacular Science Show on Sunday 10 March, and The Metamorphosis on the 22nd. Wow the whole family this Spring with some sensational on-stage science, or Franz Kafka’s classic tale of adversity and absurdity.
Following on from a comedy-packed February, March doesn’t disappoint either: we are looking forward to hosting Tom Houghton on 5 March, Count Arthur Strong on his sold out farewell tour on 6 March, and BBC comedy show regular Mark Watson on 12 March - all in our main house. Ray Bradshaw will be searching for his Doppleginger in our exclusive Exchange Studio on 9 March - with a BSL interpreted set.
And to top things off, spend an evening with musical and mystic legends including TJ Higgs on her Grief is Love tour on 7 March. Those attending TJ’s shows come away with a new perspective, and often exclaim what presence, light, and love surrounded them during their time with the celebrity medium and psychic. And for live music, we have the sold out Elvis Years performing the King of Rock’s greatest hits, Oh What a Night celebrating Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, as well as Lionel: A Tribute to Lionel Richie on 14 March.
We can’t wait for all the new comedy, classic theatre, and family shows this February and March at The Hazlitt Theatre - with many shows already sold out! As a theatre at the heart of the local community, we are especially excited to host our friends at STS, MAOS and the Hazlitt Institute Choir this month.
