Maidstone residents invited to inspire a recycling revolution through creative competition

Maidstone Borough Council (MBC), in partnership with waste contractor SUEZ, is inviting residents of all ages to take part in a brand-new art competition to inspire a creative design to be featured on one of the borough’s recycling trucks.

The competition, launching on 1 October is calling creatives to submit imaginative artwork that encourages the community to recycle, reduce, and reuse. The winning entry will be transformed into a vehicle wrap, turning a working recycling truck into a moving canvas for environmental awareness.

Cllr Clive English, Maidstone Borough Council Cabinet Member for Environmental Services and Enforcement said: “This is an opportunity for people of all ages to get creative while helping spread the message about the importance of recycling and protecting our environment. I’m really looking forward to seeing the designs that will brighten up our streets and inspire our community.”

Participants can download a design template from the Council’s website and submit their entries for a chance to win £200 in environmental or wellness vouchers. They will also be invited to take part in a special photo shoot with their design once it hits the road.

The competition comes as MBC continues its commitment to improving recycling rates and reducing waste. In the past year alone:

  • Over 60,000 tonnes of waste were collected across the borough
  • More than 4.8 million bin collections were carried out
  • 42% of household waste was successfully recycled
  • To find out more, download a template, and enter the competition, visit MBC’s website (terms and conditions apply).
