Get involved! The Hazlitt Institute of Performing Arts launches their Summer programme

28th Jul - 24th Aug

Today the Hazlitt Institute of Performing Arts announces their Summer programme for young people at the Hazlitt Theatre in Maidstone. Events include premieres of original plays, their annual Summer Festival and hugely popular workshops throughout August. Take a look at what’s on this Summer…

The Hazlitt Institute opens its doors to children aged 5-10 years old this Summer with the return of their popular workshop, Play in a Week. Children learn, rehearse and perform a play over 5 days, with a performance on the final day. This year, little ones can step into the world of Mary Poppins and perform on the Hazlitt Theatre stage! Running 28 July to 1 August 2025, this hugely popular workshop has limited spaces remaining.

For older children, HI’s Musical in a Week is designed to provide 12-18 year olds with intensive musical theatre training. Teens can join HI for the week and star in the box office and West End smash hit musical Wicked! Workshops run 4-8 August 2025, with a performance on the final day.

The HI team comes together for another original play this August. the art of being forgotten is a story all about what it means to be forgotten by someone you adore. This is a love letter to dementia and the sadness that can prevail when you are grieving for someone who is still alive. Don’t miss this brand new, original play created and performed by the Hazlitt Institute on Tuesday 12 August

August also sees the return of the Institute’s annual Summer Festival, bringing more original theatre to the heart of Maidstone. Join HI for some brand new productions including Me and My Monkey on Saturday 16 August.

After another busy Summer, the Hazlitt Institute continues working hard into the Autumn season. HI also announce The Sound of Music as their October musical this year, with 4 performances running 23-25 October in the Hazlitt Theatre 350 seat auditorium.
