Celia Imrie comes to the Hazlitt for Maidstone Literary Festival
5th Oct
With the return of the Maidstone Literary Festival, The Hazlitt Theatre is set to host the headline event on Sunday 5 October.
Tickets are now on sale for Celia Imrie and Fidelis Morgan in Conversation at the Hazlitt Theatre. This event is sponsored by the UK Government and Maidstone Borough Council.
Join acclaimed actress and bestselling author Celia Imrie and director and writer Fidelis Morgan for a compelling discussion about their collaboration on Meet Me at Rainbow Corner, a novel inspired by true stories from wartime London.
Set in 1944, the book follows Dot Gallagher, a young nurse who discovers the vibrant world of Rainbow Corner, a legendary American Red Cross club in Piccadilly where US soldiers and British women found joy, friendship and love amid the turmoil of the Second World War.
Drawing on a treasure trove of letters, diaries and personal memories—including those of Morgan’s own mother, who was engaged three times to American GIs—the novel is a vivid tribute to the unsung women who served, danced, and lived through the war with courage and heart.
In this exclusive event, Imrie and Morgan will discuss the real-life inspirations behind the book, their shared fascination with this extraordinary chapter of history, and the creative journey of bringing these stories to life. This event promises to be full of laughter, discovery and powerful storytelling in the heart of Maidstone.
Festival co-director, Becky Grace said:
“We are thrilled to announce that Celia Imrie and Fidelis Morgan will headline Maidstone’s
LitFest this October. The captivating duo will discuss the novel, set against the backdrop of World War Two, echoing the Hazlitt Theatre’s own milestone anniversary. As the theatre
celebrates its 70th year since opening in 1955, this event will be extra special, blending
literature within a rich layer of The Hazlitt Theatre’s own history.”
Tickets are on sale now via the Hazlitt Theatre website. Groups of 10+ get 1 ticket free when booked through the Hazlitt Theatre Box Office. More Maidstone Literary Festival events and details can be found on their website.
