WalkSafe App Launches
WalkSafe App Launches in Maidstone to Boost Personal Safety
One Maidstone BID is proud to announce the launch of WalkSafe, a free personal safety app now available in Maidstone to help residents and visitors plan safe journeys, access support, and quickly report concerns.
The app’s interactive Safety Map highlights accredited Safe Spaces across the town centre—venues such as bars, cafés, and restaurants that are part of the One Maidstone BCRP-accredited Safe Spaces Scheme. These locations offer discreet support initiatives like “Ask for Angela,” where asking for “Angela” signals the need for help.
WalkSafe enables users to:
Plan the safest routes around Maidstone.
Share journeys with friends and family and receive automatic alerts if they don’t arrive as expected.
Use an SOS button to instantly notify pre-approved contacts of their live location in distress.
The app, launched in partnership with One Maidstone BID, Switch Youth Services, and Kent Police, reinforces the town’s commitment to making Maidstone safer for everyone, particularly women and girls.
Michelle Woodland, CEO of One Maidstone BID, said:
“Creating a safe and welcoming town centre is at the heart of everything we do. Partnering on WalkSafe builds on our successful Safe Spaces Scheme and gives people greater confidence when visiting Maidstone. This initiative empowers our community and provides another layer of support for those who live, work, and spend time here.”
Kent Police secured funding to ensure WalkSafe is free to download and use. Reports submitted through the app also help identify potential crime hotspots, enabling partners to focus resources where they’re most needed.
WalkSafe is available now on both iOS and Android devices.
