The Mall Walthamstow is partnering with the Salvation Army in a bid to make this year’s Christmas Present Appeal the best yet. The shopping centre has offered its new guest lounge as a collection point and will be helping the Walthamstow branch of the national organisation to promote its appeal to shoppers at The Mall.

“This year has been strange to say the least and we decided to reach out to the Salvation Army to see how we could assist with its 2020 appeal,” explains Marketing Executive, Chantal Pearson. “We moved into new offices at the end of October and now have a spacious guest lounge, which we felt that would make the perfect collection point for the Christmas Present Appeal. We would like to encourage those who are able, to buy an extra present this year while they are at The Mall, and to pass it on to a member of our security team, who will deliver it to guest services. Alternatively, guests can contact us directly on 0208 509 0016 and a member of staff will meet them on the shop floor or escort them to our management suite.”

Walthamstow Salvation Army works all year round with agencies and charities to support families in crisis. In the run-up to Christmas it also collects good quality, unused toys and gifts for those in need. Last year it was able to provide for 800 children and young people thanks to local donations and its Just Giving page.

“This year we are anticipating the need for greater support from our referrers but at the same time, we are conscious that it is potentially going to be a difficult year,” said Julie Pell, Co Leader of the Walthamstow Salvation Army. “We would also like to get the message across that presents come in all shapes and sizes. Many of the children we support are teenagers, so we are not just looking for toys, we’d also appreciate any donations of brand-new clothing, toiletries, books and even gift vouchers. Having the support of The Mall is amazing and we are very grateful.”

The Salvation Army’s last collection from The Mall will be on Thursday 17 December so please ensure any gifts are delivered to the shopping centre before this date.
