30th Jul - 31st Jul

On Monday 30th July, World Friendship Day, the West Kent Befriending Service is asking everyone in Maidstone to pledge to speak to one person they would not ordinarily speak to.

Wendy (pictured above) and the West Kent Befriending team will be wandering around the Town Centre in the morning along with a cake sale in the Town Hall they will then progress to The Mall in the afternoon!

This is all part of the West Kent Befriending Service which is a project of Age UK Maidstone and provides free 1-2-1 visits by volunteers to older lonely people within the community. In the past four years they have received over 600 referrals to the service. People who live either in Maidstone or within the surrounding villages, older people who have felt so lonely that they contacted the Befriending Service for help.

Wendy Pfeiffer,West Kent Befriending Service Manager has said "You can log on to our Total Giving page and pledge anything from £1 to write in the comments and tell us who you are going to speak to...a neighbour, someone at work, maybe someone you just see every day but have never spoken to before."

Too many people can go a whole day, sometimes a week or more without a conversation - together we can make a difference...Let's get Maidstone Nattering!
