The Mall Maidstone are proud to join those displaying a yellow heart in memory of the lives tragically lost to Covid-19. On 24th July 2020, The Mall will display two banners with yellow hearts to support the families grieving for loved ones.

The Yellow Hearts to Remember Covid-19 is a support group, formed through Facebook to ensure loved ones lost during the pandemic are recognised and remembered. Started after the Gompertz family, who lost a family member to the virus, placed a yellow heart in their window, the project has since taken off. The Facebook page has quickly become an online tribute, with over 6,000 members. The Mall was touched to be contacted by the group and have worked closely with them to find the best way to show support on a larger scale.

The Mall has always supported the community wherever possible and new General Manager, Gavin Cockayne, is keen to ensure this is continued – despite the uncertain circumstances.

General Manager of The Mall, Gavin Cockayne comments:

“The Mall has always been a local hub and community projects will remain at the heart of our work. The past few months have been very difficult for everyone and we want to show our support to those who are grieving in any way we can. We are proud to join other shopping centres displaying a yellow heart in memory of the lives tragically lost to Covid-19.”

Since joining The Mall’s senior management team in early May 2020, Gavin has spearheaded the successful reopening of The Mall and overseen the centre’s safe and steady return since June, following strict social distancing guidelines. He brings with him 20 years’ experience in the retail sector, including managing flagship locations for renowned fashion brands Debenhams, New Look and Topshop.
