Kiarha Mustafa, who is in year 5, created her own bookmark as part of World Book Day celebrations at the shopping centre.

Her stunning design, featuring famous book characters, was selected from hundreds of entries and the prize was a mini library of books and 360 bookmarks featuring her artwork!

The Mall donated a selection of books and Blackburn based EPSL Education Printing boosted the mini-library with published titles from their own talented authors along with the professionally printed bookmarks.

Kiarha was presented with her prize in a special assembly at school.

Mr Cumbo, who is headteacher at Lower Darwen Primary School, said: “Kiarha is a very talented artist and her work always shows real creative flair.

“We were delighted when we found out she had won and look forward to seeing all the children make use of the prizes.”

Kiarha added: “I couldn’t believe it when I heard the news, I felt very proud. I love drawing so decided to take part. I am glad I did now!”

Loraine Jones, General Manager at The Mall Blackburn, said: “We had so many wonderful entries to our competition but Kiarha’s really stood out.

“It was lovely to see her so excited to receive the prizes in assembly.”

David Pickering, Managing Director at EPSL Educational Printing, added: “World Book Day is one of our favourite days of the year so we were thrilled when The Mall Blackburn asked us to be involved in their celebration with this competition.

“The design that Kiarha created is fantastic – a very deserving winner indeed!”

Children were asked to design a bookmark on the run up to this year’s World Book Day and submit their entries online or in The Mall Blackburn.
