School Children Take Over The Mall

Children from Coppermill Primary School took over The Mall Walthamstow on Wednesday 28th September as part of The Mall Takeover Day, which is an initiative supported by the Office of Children’s Commissioner. The event will give pupils the chance to get involved with decision-making for the day and shadow members of the Centre team.

The Mall Takeover Day aimed to provide the children with an insight into what a career in retail might be like and give them the chance to voice their ideas and opinions. Pupils were given the opportunity to work alongside members of the Marketing, Customer Service, and Management teams and find out how the different roles contribute to the daily running of The Mall Walthamstow.

The children undertook various tasks including interviewing, designing a shopping centre and a budgeting task which involved a shopping rip to Waterston's. The children had an action packed day which at the end they al received a goody bag and certificate for their participation.

Alasdair Currie, General Manager at The Mall Walthamstow, commented: “All the staff at The Mall Walthamstow took part in takeover day and we all agreed the children from Coppermill were wonderful, engaging and a real credit to the school. We believe the children benefited greatly from the opportunity to experience the world of work. The event also provided us with a chance to listen to their ideas and is a great way for us to become more involved with the local schools.”
