What's on - The Mall thanks it's shoppers.
13 January, 2012
The Mall Sutton Coldfield has announced it has raised over £41,000 for local charities over the course of 2011 thanks to donations from generous shoppers.
The much-needed funds have been raised for charities such as The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Fund, Guide Dogs for the Blind, Gentleshaw Wildlife Trust and The Royal British Legion as a result of The Mall's charity programme, Mall Cares.
The initiative has been designed to support local charities, encouraging shoppers, retailers and the Centre Management team to work together for local, community-based worthy causes.
The Mall Sutton Coldfield boosted funds with a host of fundraising events held in The Mall, which included the June Sadler Tap Dancers tap dancing throughout the day in aid of charity, and Gentleshaw Wildlife Trust bringing their birds of prey into the Mall.
One organisation which has benefited from the kindness of shoppers is the Guide Dogs for the Blind. The Mall's link-up with the charity was initially launched by a special competition run with the Observer to 'Help Name a Guide Dog Puppy'. The winning name was chosen by Cameron Bailey at Gunter Primary School, who got the chance to meet newly named Guide Dog Puppy 'Poppy' and visit the Training Centre. Since then, The Mall has continued to support the charity in raising vital funds.
Andy Jackson, General Manager at The Mall commented: "To have raised over £41,000 is a tremendous achievement and is testament to the generosity of shoppers in Sutton Coldfield. The feedback we have had from the charities has been very humbling and the funds have been particularly well-received given that we know people are tightening their belts. Hopefully next year will see us raise even more money for some fantastic causes."
The Mall Sutton Coldfield is part of a portfolio of 9 shopping centres across the UK, which together have raised over £841,000 in 2011, over £4 million since the Mall Cares programme began in 2007.
