What's on - What do BBC, ITV and SKY all have in common? ...They were all down at The Mall Preston last week!

 

Radio Lancashire to broadcast live from The Mall Preston

The Radio Lancashire team took over retail unit 75 Friargate  Walk, which is situated on the lower ground floor of The Mall opposite to Costa Coffee, from Monday 16 August and transformed it into a radio studio for the week with popular shows including  'Ladies who Lunch' and 'Drivetime' being aired live from the centre.

Shoppers got the chance to watch live broadcasts and interact with the shows presenters throughout the week whilst Radio Lancashire devoted itself to saving Lancashire consumer's money.

Working in partnership with the Citizens Advice Bureau, Preston City Council, Lancashire Trading Standards and Tax Credit experts, Radio Lancashire offered listeners and visitors to The Mall Preston expert advice and top tips on how to stretch their money further in the current tough economic climate.

Special guests throughout the week included Ted Robbins who made an appearance in The Mall on Wednesday 20 August at 1pm and Breakfast presenter and BBC North West Tonight sport presenter, Tony Livesey, visited The Mall on Friday 22 August.

The Ladies Who Lunch, Sally Naden and Carole Turner, broadcasted live every day between 11am and 1pm and thus providing visitors to The Mall Preston an unmissable chance to hear the un-edited version of the show. Brett Davison also broadcasted his Drivetime show live from the centre on Tuesday 19th and Thursday 21st August between 4pm and 6pm, whilst John 'Gilly' Gilmore was live in The Mall on Wednesday 20th between 1pm and 4pm.

 Ken Williams, general manager at The Mall Preston, said: "The Mall Preston was delighted to host Radio Lancashire's week-long programme of events and I am delighted that people decided to come down to The Mall and make the most of a unique opportunity in seeing how radio programmes are made, whilst picking up some expert money saving tips."

 

 

 

 


   Young stars encouraged to read the headlines at the The Mall in Preston

Young stars were given the chance to read the headlines in an exclusive Junior Newsreader Challenge at The Mall in Preston.

Taking place on Thursday 21st August from 10am to 5pm, the Challenge was part of a roadshow being run by Granada Reports to attract young viewers to the show and to inform the viewing public about ITV Local/Granada's broadband service.

Granada Reports presenters, Lucy Meacock and Tony Morris attended the event between 12 noon and 1pm to talk to members of the public and sign autographs, while the roadshow will was promoted on air to encourage viewers to bring their children along and 'have a go at reading the news'.

Children under the age of 16 took part in the Challenge, which involved sitting in a studio setting alongside a cardboard cut-out presenter, and reading a brief news bulletin to camera, using autocue. Short clips of the young newsreaders have been uploaded on to ITV Local and will be available to view.

Jo Hargreaves, Community Affairs Manager at ITV Granada, said: "We we're delighted to visit The Mall Preston with the ITV Granada Junior Newsreader Challenge to find out what the local talent was like! Reading the News is harder than most people think, but this is a fun way for young people to find out what a television studio is like.' We hope that the many children that took part enjoyed the experience and that the families and friends who were with them saw what reading the news is like'
