The Mall Retailer Awards 2009 took place at Oakwood House in Oakwood Park on Tuesday 8th July, when six shops were presented with a unique award. Guests, including retail and mall staff, were kept entertained until late with a Best of British themed event complete with a sit down three course meal!
Hawkins Bazaar was crowned the shoppers' favourite after receiving the most votes from members of the public and is now the proud holder of the Shoppers' Award. Customers were asked to judge stores in terms of customer service, store layout, cleanliness, imaginative visual displays and choice of products.
Winners of the remaining five categories, voted for by fellow retailers within The Mall Chequers, were:
Best Retail Presentation: New Look Best Independent Retailer: Candy Bouquet Best Involvement in Marketing Initiatives: Mc Donald's Health and Safety Award 2009 Ann Harvey Overall Best Retailer: Boots
There was also a special mention, when Bill Moss, Town Centre Manager hijacked the ceremony to give special thanks to Mall Security guard Stuart Brumbridge. Bill wanted to thank Stuart for all his hard work and dedication to the Urban Blue bus that was launched back in May. Stuart has been working on a voluntary basis as the Bus Manager, spending much of his free time to ensure the service is first class.
Paul Alcock, General Manager of The Mall Chequers, said: "The Mall Retailer Awards are a unique opportunity to award and thank our retailers who have provided excellent service to customers at The Mall Chequers throughout the year.
