What's on - What will we be wearing in Spring/Summer 2010

As the January sales come to an end, the stores in the Mall Howgate are updating their displays with the latest collections for Spring/Summer 2010.  If your looking to update your wardrobe with some key pieces that will see you through to summer, check out our fashion tips below to ensure you are on trend this season.

Nudes
If you're the colour-shy type and usually live in black during winter, this trend could be just the thing to brighten up your wardrobe as nudes, pastels and greys will be hot colours for the spring/summer season. (Picture from River Island)

Where last year we obsessed about colour blocking, this year will be about subtleties of tone with pale and interesting hues of baby pinks, soft peaches, and creamy caramels. Neutrals have an expensive classy feel, even when they don't cost the earth, so you can rock this look without breaking the bank.

Underwear as Outwerwear
It might sound a tad zany, but when teamed in the right way, wearing underwear outside your clothes isn't as crazy as it first sounds. Try some casual trousers mixed with a sexy corset, underwired bra or laced dress, it's the inside-out, topsy-turvy way of dressing.    ( Picture from New Look)

Androgynous
In 2010, the androgynous/masculine look will be big and, thankfully a lot smarter, as we'll be seeing more girls and boys sharing the tuxedo. Girls will be wearing a masculine style, whether it is with an oversized jacket, tailored suit, chunky boots or brogues. (Picture from Evans)

We saw some androgynous styles in 2009, but the 2010 version will be more subtle - and sexier than the workwear boots and studding of 2009 with the attention in the detail, such as unexpected girly lining in a jacket or shirts with trims and unusual buttons.

Kitten Heels
After years of stomping around in extreme shoes, the sensible heel height is back with a vengeance.
As seen on the catwalks at Marni, Missoni, Chloe and a host of other shows too numerous to mention, the girlish midi heel are everywhere for spring.  (Picture from Wallis)

Romantic
The romantic trend was seen all over the catwalks for the spring/summer 2010 shows, but unlike the flouncy kind of romantic look we saw in the 1980s, the 2010 version is altogether more chic and the key element to this look is draping.
Draping is perfect for creating a sophisticated, feminine finish for any occasion. (Picture - Red Herring at Debenhams)

Another key tip for creating the modern romantic look is layering such as lace jackets and waistcoats in light chiffon fabrics. The layering technique is perfect for women of all shapes and sizes and will add a touch of on-trend-glamour and femininity to any summer look.

LWD
The statement dress this summer will be the LWD (little white dresses) which will keep you cool but look amazing day and night. White is a huge trend this season whether it's pure white, off-white or cream tones. The trend was all over New York fashion week runways, and now it's all over the high street. Accessorize with belts, bags, bold jewellery or go for funky statement shoes to modernize the look. (Picture from Dorothy Perkins)
