What's on - 1,000 Faces of the Mall

During 2007, the Mall embarked on a unique art project that aimed to capture 1,000 images of our shoppers and local community heroes.  The idea was born from 'The 1000 faces of E17', a photographic celebration of the cultural diversity that exists in today's Britain and in particular Walthamstow, East London.

We asked Hal Satterthwaite, the artist behind the original 1000 Faces, to re-create the project on a national scale by visiting our 23 Malls across the UK and capture a snapshot of each local community.  During the 11 week tour, Hal took 35,000 photographs of 50 people from each Mall which have produced an extraordinary work of art - a creative representation of that community.
