THE MALL BRISTOL RANKED 29th AS PART OF THE UK'S BEST WORKPLACES SURVEY

The Mall Corporation, which operates The Mall Bristol, has been ranked number 29 in the top 50 Best Places to Work UK Survey 2006.

Along with their colleagues at 22 further Malls around the UK and The Mall Corporation's London & Glasgow offices, the team at The Mall Bristol have been recognised in this annual survey published today (18 May 2006) by the Financial Times in conjunction with the Great Place to Work Institute.

The Mall Bristol prides itself on employing local people and currently employs over 65 staff at all levels of the business. Across the UK The Mall Corporation employs over 350 Mall People and around 800 partner/supplier employees. The Mall Corporation is the UK's leading operator of community shopping centres and, alongside The Mall Bristol, its 23 malls stretch from Aberdeen to Southampton and Bristol to Norwich.

Colin Lang, general manager at The Mall Bristol, said: ""We are a community business and our aim is to provide the best possible facilities and services for the local people who shop with us regularly. A huge part of this is employing local people and it is our responsibility to ensure that our staff receive the best possible training and development so we can continue to improve the business and provide the standard of service our customers expect."

Having been acquired by The Mall Corporation in 2004, an ongoing refurbishment programme has been put into place at The Mall Bristol to improve facilities for local shoppers. Improvements to date have included the installation of Mall TV and a new Ask Me Point to help customers with those all-important queries, as well as the refurbishment of the customer toilets on the top floor.

The survey, on which the rankings are based, confidentially asked more than 300 Mall employees for their views on a number of issues including trust in management, pride in work and organisation and camaraderie. The Mall Corporation itself was also extensively probed on internal communications, distinctive workplace practices, forms of employee recognition and workplace governance.

The Mall Corporation's introduction of its 'M Power' training and development programme in 2002 has been a key element in the organisation's success and encourages Mall People to 'Be All You Can Be' at The Mall.

The programme is The Mall Corporation's all-employee development initiative, which ranges from skills training for the shopping centre based teams to the two-year development programme for all personnel.

Gaynor Gillespie, HR Director at The Mall Corporation added: "We are delighted to have made it to the top 50 companies within the survey. The fact that the survey is largely based on feedback from our own people makes this particularly valuable for us. The feedback we receive directly from our employees is crucial in ensuring the business continues to develop in the right way and this top 50 placing is evidence that we are on the right track."

The Mall Corporation was established in 2002 by Capital & Regional and Morley Fund Management. In the four years since, The Mall Corporation has grown from 11 shopping centres worth £656 million to a portfolio of 23 branded Malls valued at over £2.9 billion. More than 4.5 million shoppers visit the Malls every week.
