DVDs out now

Catch up with some American TV drams or the latest film.  Here's our pick of the best DVDs out now:

Heroes, Season 2

The story of our super-powered heroes and there quest to save the world continues with the release of the complete Season 2 on DVD. Picking up four months after the climax of season 1, the slightly shorter second season, due to the writers strike, still packs in plenty of action and twists while introducing new heroes, villains and a brand new threat to the world. We say get the boxset and save the pain of the weekly cliff-hanger suspense.

The Wire, Season 1

The Wire seems to have gone mostly unnoticed, even by a lot of die-hard American TV drama enthusiasts. While not as high profile as The Sopranos or West Wing, The Wire is another great, gritty, series focussing on drug related crime in Baltimore. It follows both sides of the story and isn't afraid to show the positives and negatives of both. A hidden Gem.

In Bruges

After winning an Oscar for his short Six Shooter, director Martin McDonagh moves to this crime film starring Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, and Ralph Fiennes. A pair of hit men (Farrell and Gleeson) are sent to Belgium after a job goes wrong but their exile turns out to be more than it first appears.

There Will Be Blood

Directed by Paul Anderson (Boogie Nights, Magnolia), There Will Be Blood won Daniel Day-Lewis an Oscar for his performance and is a deep and stunning work of film. It follows Day-Lewis's character as he discovers oil while attempting to mine silver and his subsequent to rise to power as he builds an empire around it. A truly awesome performance from Day-Lewis is the crowning glory of There Will Be Blood, but the it's also an intriguing and complex film with a grand scope - a true epic.

The Bank Job

Since starring in Guy Ritchie's cult British gangster crime flick Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Jason Statham has managed to carve out a niche role as British action hero with films such as The Transporter. In this most recent offering he plays a second hand car dealer who participates in a robbery only to find himself entwined in a story of deceit involving the crown. Another full action offering, which is surprising fun and entertaining - A guilty pleasure of a film.
