Xbox 360

xbox 360 EliteThe Xbox 360 console is the first next-generation console that fuses powerful hardware, software, and services to provide a dramatic leap forward in high-definition gaming and entertainment experiences. Xbox 360 fully engages players in a gaming experience that is more expansive, dramatic and lifelike, where the possibilities are limitless and their imagination knows no boundaries.

To help stave off the competition from the funky Nintendo Wii, and the powerhouse Playstation 3, Microsoft have launched an updated version of the 360, called the Elite, which comes with a 120gb hard drive, HDMI socket and cable to send high-definition signals to your TV (HD TV needed) and comes in a rather cool black finish.

The 360's wireless controllers are arguably the best around, and while they lack the motion-sensitivity of the Wii and PS3 versions, they offer a near perfect button layout.  Unlike the PS3, the 360 can't play the new high-definition DVD formats, but a separate drive is available for around £100.

Microsoft Live - the xbox's online service - is currently the best in it's field, and with a good head start over Nintendo and Sony there are thousands of people around the globe downloading content and playing together.  Many games let you play mulitplayer modes online, either cooperatively with one or more friends or competitively in teams, expect nearly every game to have an online mode.

As the 360 has been with us for a while the selection of games is comprehensive, and makes the most of the technology available.  Big sellers this year will be Halo 3, Project Gothem Racing 4, Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, which is probably the best looking game currently available.
