Playstation 3

PlayStation 3 is the most advanced computer system that serves as a platform to enjoy next generation computer entertainment contents in the home, realized through the combination of Cell and RSX processors, in addition to the playability of a vast catalogue of PlayStation and PlayStation2 software titles. Having Giga-bit Ethernet and a pre-installed hard disk drive (HDD) as standard in PS3, users will be able to download a variety of contents as well as access on-line games and services over the network.

While being the newest and most powerful games console available, the PS3 is geared up for being your complete home entertainment hub.  It connects to the internet, can store and organise all your digital movies and photographs, and has been designed to work seamlessly with the PSP. You can share content easily between the two and there are even rumours of future games titles being designed to be played on both systems. 

The addition of a Blue-Ray DVD player means it can play the next generation of high-definition movies that are just beginning to make their way into the shops.  Like the Xbox 360 Elite, PS3 comes with an HDMI output to send high-definition signals to your TV (HD TV required). 

While there used to be two models available: 40gb and 60gb versions, reffering to the size of the hard disk within the console, the 60gb version is now not being sold.  The difference in hard-disk space is not too much of a problem as you can plug external hard-drives into the unit, which are now great value for money, but the 40gb version is not backward compatible with older Playstation 2 games.

Games developers still seem to be trying to catch up to the power of the Playstation 3, and while the current crop of games are fantastic to look at something tells us there's much more to come from the system as designers take full advantage of the processing power available.
