Team Mall - Chris Cook

As our most successful swimmer in the 2006 Commonwealth Games, Chris Cook is our best prospect for a gold in the Olympic pool in Beijing. At the Games in Melbourne, Chris took gold in the 50m and 100m breaststroke and silver in the 4 x 100m relay. Just for good measure Chris scored an unexpected bronze at the World (Short Course) Championships in Shanghai on the way home from Australia. Chris has been ranked in the top six in the world in his field for more than two years and was the first British male to dip under 59 seconds for the 100m breaststroke.

When he's not training in the pool, Chris - who began competing with South Tyneside Swimming Club, aged 10 - is part of an elite swimming group called the Aquatic Crusaders. Under the guise of the 'Cookie Monster', Chris and his fellow crusaders host road shows and visit clubs with the aim of inspiring and motivating the next generation of swimmers to make a big splash.

This is made tougher by the fact that in Britain we have 5 or 6 guys all able to achieve this qualifying standard... Read more >
