March 08

The last few months have been spent building up my training programme to try and build upon my cardiovascular fitness and my strength endurance.

March was spent continuing with this training progressing through to the BUSA championships which were held in Sheffield. Here I managed to come away winning gold in both the individual event held on the Saturday and the team event held on the Sunday. I had 8 fights over the two days and won every match by ippon (full 10 point score). I put in a good performance and felt on form.

This weekend I spent my time in Dartford completing a weekend of Great Britain training. This is where the number 1 - 4 in Great Britain in each weight category come together to train. This consisted of several technique sessions, randori sessions and also a session on nutrition and psychology. The sessions on nutrition and psychology were delivered to us by EIS (English Institut of Sport) staff, I found these sessions very helpful.

I am now working towards the British Open that is due to be held in just under 2 months time. This is going to be a strong and tough event with the best of the British players all taking part along with many international competitiors. I am hoping to put in a good performance as I did at the BUSA, and am looking at comming away with a medal.

I have just arrived back from competing at America's biggest International tournament of the year, where I took a respectable silver medal, after beating several opponents from the United States of America and an opponent from Japan. This awarded me a place in the final with the World Silver medallist. After putting up a good performance I was unlucky to loose to her. Within my performance I felt physically strong and well prepared.

After this competition I carried out a 3 day International training camp, before returning to my full time set up at the University of Bath, in preparation for my next International event.

On Friday 2nd November I will be leaving to compete in a Senior B International in Gottenberg Sweden. I'm hoping to improve on the 5th place I achieved last year by winning a medal. I will then proceed from this tournament onto their 4 day training camp, with other athletes from all over the world.
