UK's Leading Community Shopping Centre Brand

The Mall wins gold RoSPA award for the Mall safe health and safety management system in its first year of operation

The Mall has been awarded the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents' (RoSPA) most prestigious Gold Award at the annual RoSPA Awards for MallSafe, its Health and Safety management system. The RoSPA Awards recognise excellence in Occupational Health and Safety, rating individual projects over four levels - Merit, Bronze, Silver or Gold.

MallSafe, developed by The Mall in conjunction with Preston City Council, was launched in 2006 at all The Mall's 23 shopping centres in order to improve reporting and to support compliance in Health and Safety management. It has been a great success, helping each Mall to make its approach to Health and Safety more effective and efficient.

Each year RoSPA, one of the world's most respected Health and Safety organisations, invites a wide range of companies and organisations across a large number of industries to submit entries outlining their approach to Health and Safety management. The Mall, the UK's leading community shopping centre brand, entered MallSafe, which was launched across the country last summer.

The RoSPA Awards looks at a large number of indicators to assess each project and benchmarks it against comparable systems. The assessment criteria includes the level of development of the system and the general culture around risk control within the organisations to demonstrate that the system runs at a level of excellence, that the approach to Health and Safety is rigorous and performance is actively monitored.

Kate Miles, The Mall's National Compliance Manager and responsible for the development of MallSafe, said of its success: "We are delighted to have been recognised with RoSPA's Gold Award. The team has worked tirelessly in the last 18 months to develop MallSafe - our robust compliance system which all our Malls and our people can embrace with pride. We worked closely with our Lead Authority Partner, Preston City Council, on its development to ensure we achieved the highest standards and we continue to do so to meet the challenges ahead."

Ken Ford, CEO of The Mall, echoed this, saying: "All Mall People can take great pride in this award, which demonstrates that The Mall is at the forefront of Health and Safety practices. Personally, I am particularly pleased that the teams in each Mall have embraced MallSafe and are working hard to integrate it into everyday culture. Of course, with this acknowledgement of us leading in this vital area we need to ensure that we do not rest on our laurels but keep pushing the boundaries to further improve. Nevertheless, I am sure there will be more awards and accolades for this system in the future."
