The Mall Barnsley is pleased to announce that it will be welcoming leading discount retailer, Poundstretcher, to the centre. The retailer will be opening a 7,000 sq ft store in The Mall Barnsley in early March, creating 35 full and part-time positions.
The store, which will be located between Iceland and Select on the Lower Mall, will further develop The Mall's diverse range of the high street's leading brands and the team is excited to work with the established national retailer, who will be a great addition to the Barnsley shopping centre.
Mark Broadhead, General Manager of The Mall said: "We are delighted to welcome Poundstretcher to The Mall, particularly because their move to this larger unit will have a positive impact on the local jobs market."
The retailer will invest in a total refurbishment of the store, which originally housed Woolworths. The larger Woolworths unit was split in 2009 when Iceland opened a store occupying half of the original space. The new Poundstretcher is expected to attract a mix of custom from both local residents and visitors to the town.
Poundstretcher's move to open a larger store in the current economic climate is testament to its strong market position and reputation for offering quality merchandise at competitive prices.
Commenting on the new store, Poundstretcher Managing Director, Charles Kay, said: "We have an ambitious store opening plan for 2011 and this new store in The Mall represents a significant investment for us. The response we've had from local residents to the four stores we've already opened this year has been hugely positive and I look forward to welcoming Barnsley's savvy shoppers to our brand new store in March."
